We have expanded our Knavesmire Nursery to accommodate Nursery provision from 2 years old! Children are now be eligible to start the nursery from the term following their 2nd Birthday, as well as join our Pre-School from the term following their 3rd Birthday.
We’d love to welcome you and your family to Knavesmire Primary School.
Knavesmire Primary School is part of Excel Learning Trust who acts as our Admission Authority. The Trust participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Scheme for admissions and in-year admissions. More information on the admissions process, including appeals and oversubscription criteria can be found in the Local Authority’s guide for parents which can be downloaded here.
If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be made via the ParentPortal. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days. If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure. Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed is available here.

From Easter 2026 we will have two Nursery rooms:
As we are a school setting we run termly enrolments, intaking children into Little Seedlings from the term after they turn 2, and into Preschool from the term after they turn 3. If a child has started in Little Seedlings they do not need to re-apply for Preschool, it is treated as a continuous enrolment.

There are several different funding options available for Nursery age children, based on family circumstances. The funding options can feel a bit overwhelming at first glance but we are here to help! As we enrol your child we will provide you with information to help you make the most of the funding which you are entitled to.

Once received, your application will be placed on the Waiting List and you will be contacted when your child is eligible to start in your preferred setting – which is the term following their 2nd birthday for Little Seedlings and the term following their 3rd birthday for Preschool.
You can add you child’s name to the Waiting List at any point, in preparation for their eligible start term. Enrolment for each term is completed half a term in advance so if you add your child to the Waiting List after this point the enrolment will have been completed and we may not be able to accommodate/have space for your child until the following term. Please be aware of this and add your child to the Waiting List in good time.
Due to the high number of applications received, we will only contact you when a place becomes available, not to confirm receipt of your application form. A copy of your Application Form response will be auto-sent to you for your records.

Please note, we book for full enrolment patterns and per session for Wraparound sessions – these are chargeable in full, regardless of early collection or non-attendance.
For clarity we do not levy any additional charges for the likes of food, non-food consumables or activities etc. Our hourly rate is the only charge.
Nursery Fees are payable at the END of each half term, payable in arrears. We use ParentPay to provide an itemised invoice for each child where there are charges in excess of hours covered by Government/Local Authority Funding. Our invoice will take the following format:

Payment for Nursery Fees for Spring Half Term 2 (23rd February 2026 – 27th March 2026).
This payment includes sessions paid by invoice as usual and any additional sessions booked during this half term, if applicable.
FUNDED HOURS
Total Funded Hours per week = 18
CHARGED HOURS
6 core hours to be paid at £6 per hour.
0 wraparound hours to be paid at £5 per hour.
TOTAL PAYMENT DUE £36
Please make prompt payment by the due date. Payment Terms are 2 weeks and therefore payment is due by 10th April 2026.
If you are paying by Childcare Vouchers or by Tax Free Childcare Account then please contact the school office by email at admin@knavesmire.elt.org.uk with your reference number/screenshot as proof of payment.
If you would like to look around Knavesmire Nursery, please contact the school office to arrange a suitable time to visit at the end of the Nursery day, at 3.15pm.
