Arts Award Discover – Year 2 – Day 1

All of the children in Year 2 began their Arts Award Discover journey with Mrs Wareham and Miss Smith. Usual lessons were replaced with a full day of Art! Together we thought about the arts we had already experienced and those which we would like to try. 

We focused on the early life, upbringing, passions and artistic style of the Spanish Artist, Joan Miro. After studying and discussing our opinions relating to many of his different works, we created our own full page of mini Miró-esque drawings on a Doodle page.

After we had chosen our favourite image, we drew a larger A4 scale version and then used oil pastels and watercolours to complete our masterpieces.

Arts Award Discover – Year 2 – Day 2

Today, we began our second full day of Arts Award by playing a drawing game based on the Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso. With each throw of a dice, we were able to create our own unique portrait. In our next activity, we made colourful collage faces based on the Cubism style of Picasso. It was great fun, as we could put the key features on the face wherever we wanted!

Our afternoon began by working as a class on large rolls of paper. Together we listened and drew to nine different styles of music – from classical to hip-hop. We had amazing fun!  Hedwig’s Theme was our final musical piece and we each created our own artwork using soft pastels.

Arts Award Discover – Year 2 – Day 3

For our final full day of our Arts Award journey, we began by studying the artist L.S.Lowry. Together, we discussed his distinctive style of using matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs and formed our own opinions on what we liked and disliked about his work. After practicing drawing our own matchstick men on a Doodle page, we made our own figures using pipe cleaners and copied some of his paintings using sketching pencil and black pen.

In the afternoon, we began by focusing on the work of William Morris. After discussing his distinctive style and designs, which were largely based on nature, we each made a pattern and then transferred it onto clay.

Finally, we discussed the work of the Irish artist, Orla Kiely and how her designs differ from those of William Morris. We discovered that her designs are used to wrap transport vehicles and had a go at designing our own.
